Mavericks waive guard Dee Brown, Adam Haluska;
; here's hoping Brown's hustle earns him a shot with another team


Dee Brown probably never had a chance to make the Mavericks' opening day
roster. He was a 6-foot point guard trying out for a team that has Jason Kidd
, J.J. Barea, Roddy Beaubois, Jason Terry and not enough minutes even for
that foursome.

So today the Mavericks waived Brown, as well as Adam Haluska.

Here's a reason why fans should hope Brown catches on with another NBA
team: Did you happen to see the play near the end of last night's game when
Orlando's Mickael Pietrus stole the ball and had a breakaway for an easy
basket?

On the turnover by Dominique Jones, Brown was a good 20 feet behind Pietrus,
but he went as fast as he could and ended up fouling Pietrus with 26 seconds
left to stop a sure dunk.

It was a play that made no difference in the outcome and will be forgotten
quickly. But it was the kind of hustle that you love to see, particularly out
of a player who is on the fringe of the NBA.

Here's hoping that Brown latches on with somebody. He deserves to be playing
in this league.
